12 Hours, 1 Football Pitch… and Over £13,000 Raised!

On Saturday 14th June, a team of local legends swapped their Saturday plans for an epic 12-hour non-stop football match — all to raise money for My Cancer My Choices.
Led by organiser Ross O’Connor, the match was inspired by his wife Sam, who is currently being supported by our services as she faces cancer treatment. Ross wanted to give back to the charity that, in his words, “has been a lifeline for Sam, helping her cope with the toughest moments.”
What started as a target to raise £10,000 absolutely smashed expectations, with the final total reaching over £13,000. That’s enough to provide vital complementary therapies to help at least 40 more people like Sam navigate cancer with strength and support.
As for the match itself? Let’s just say it was tougher than expected — but fuelled by determination, a sense of humour, and sheer heart, the team made it through (with perhaps a few sore legs the next day).
We are so grateful to Ross, Sam, every player, and every supporter who made this incredible fundraiser possible. This is community at its finest — and a powerful reminder that no one should face cancer alone.
