NADA (Ear Acupuncture for Wellbeing)

A simple, gentle therapy using acupuncture to reduce hot flushes, and aid relaxation and emotional balance.

What can NADA help with?

The NADA protocol (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) is a form of ear acupuncture that may help with:

Hot flushes associated with prostate treatment, stress & anxiety, sleep disturbances, emotional wellbeing, managing treatment side effects*

What is an NADA?

NADA is a type of acupuncture, using small, very fine needles placed in specific points on the ear. It is designed to help regulate the nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

It is widely used in supportive care settings, including cancer support to reduce hormone-induced hot flushes for people who have/had prostate cancer.

Who can attend?

Our NADA therapy is offered to people who have/had prostate cancer and are experiencing treatment-related hot flushes. The eligibility criteria for this treatment that you have prostate cancer or are 6-12 months after the end of your cancer treatment.

How long does it take?

This is a small group course which runs weekly for 8 weeks.  You’ll attend for 1.5-2 hours each week. The actual treatment typically lasts 30-45 minutes. The needles remain in place while you relax quietly, and are removed at the end of the session, before you move on to refreshments with the rest of the group.

What can I expect?

You’ll be seated in a calm, quiet space while the therapist places tiny, sterile needles in specific points on your ear. These stay in place for around 30-45 minutes while you relax. Many people find this deeply calming as well as reducing the impact of the hot flushes.

Is NADA safe?

NADA is generally safe and has very few side effects, when conducted by a professional practitioner. The needles are single use, sterile and disposable, so won’t have been used before or again after your treatment.

You can stop the session at any time if you feel uncomfortable or concerned.
