Tai Chi

A gentle movement practice to restore balance, strength, and calm.

What can Tai Chi help with?

Tai Chi is a flowing movement practice that can offer relief for some cancer-related symptoms and side-effects of conventional cancer treatments, such as:

Reduce stress & anxiety, Improve balance & coordination, Increase strength & flexibility, Enhance overall wellbeing*

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a form of moving meditation that combines slow, controlled movements with deep breathing. It is designed to balance the body and mind, helping to release tension and improve energy flow.

What can I expect?

Tai Chi is practiced standing or sitting, with slow, deliberate movements. You’ll be guided through a series of gentle postures and breathing exercises designed to help you relax and restore balance. No experience is necessary.

What do we offer?

We offer small group classes with a focus on relaxation and wellbeing. Classes are welcoming, and no prior experience is needed.

Our instructors

Our Tai Chi instructors are fully trained and experienced in working with people affected by cancer. They are fully insured and volunteer their time to support our charity.  Donations are used to cover essential items such as equipment, venue hire and continuing professional development of our volunteers.

How long does it take?

This is a group course which usually runs for 6 weeks. A session typically lasts an hour and is offered face to face.

I’m concerned about…

Tai Chi is very gentle, but if you have mobility concerns, it can be adapted to suit you. Movements can be done seated if needed, and there is no pressure to push beyond your comfort level.  You will also complete a medical questionnaire before the time, but if you have any concerns—such as recent surgery or mobility issues—it’s best to check with your instructor and doctor before starting. You’re always encouraged to work at your own pace.

You can stop the session at any time if you feel uncomfortable or concerned. It’s your treatment, to be experienced your way.

*Please note, this is based on anecdotal feedback, and is not a promise that the therapy will give these benefits every time.
