Devizes to Westminster canoe race 1 race, 5 friends, 40 years later
What started as a good idea in 1979, when they were all just 17, became a great idea in 2018, when these old friends and former police officers reunited to paddle from Devizes to Westminster.
After many months of training through the harsh winter of 2017, and in some cases uncharacteristic self-denial, the team, now numbering 6, set off in the snow from Devizes. Destination London’s Westminster. This time though, the weather was against them, and dangerous river conditions unfortunately meant the event had to be called off when they reached Reading.
It was still a lot of hard work, but well worth it. The friends, with new members of the team, raised nearly £9,000, and incredible amount.
