Anne Thomas Completes 70th Birthday Swim Challenge Early!

Long-standing My Cancer My Choices volunteer Anne Thomas has gone above and beyond in her mission to raise funds for our charity, completing an incredible swim challenge three months ahead of schedule!

Anne, who has been part of My Cancer My Choices for seven years as both a volunteer therapist and member of our People Committee, set herself the ambitious goal of swimming 70 lengths, 70 times before her 70th birthday in June 2025. Despite not having done serious swimming in over 30 years, she took to the water in September 2024 and by 17 March 2025, she had already completed an astonishing 123km across 70 swim sessions.

Reflecting on her achievement, Anne said:

“I started the challenge without too much thought or planning, so initially, the early mornings and low temperatures were quite a shock to the system. What kept me going was not only the support I was receiving from family, friends, MCMC, and the team at The Carnival Pool but also knowing how much the money I raised would help our amazing service users. My commitment never wavered, and I’ve exceeded even my own expectations.”

Anne’s swim was in support of My Cancer My Choices and she set out to raise £1,800, and thanks to her incredible determination and the generosity of her supporters, she is well on her way to surpassing that goal.

We are so proud of Anne and all she does for My Cancer My Choices. Her dedication, energy, and passion for supporting people living with cancer is truly inspiring.
