Reflexology

Patients report benefits of reflexology such as; relaxation, reduced stress and anxiety, reduction of fatigue and improved mood and quality of life.  Practitioners use their thumbs and fingers to apply gentle pressure to pressure points on the patient’s feet.

Reflexology is a non intrusive complementary therapy that helps the body to restore its balance naturally.  It is a very easy treatment to receive and the most clothing that will have to be removed for a treatment to take place will be your socks and shoes.

For people with cancer, reflexology is offered to aid relaxation and reduce anxiety.

A treatment usually last around 45 minutes and will be given with the patient lying on a couch. Usually talc or lotion is used to massage the feet. Practitioners use their thumbs and fingers to apply gentle pressure to pressure points on the patient’s feet. Some areas of the feet may feel sensitive but the treatment should not be uncomfortable.

Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed. There may be a reduction of fatigue. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects improve too; however, this happens on an individual basis.
